Best Hot Chocolate?

None of that powdery Swiss Miss stuff! Where do you go in DC for a delicious warming chocolaty experience?

        Particularly their version with chipotle.

    1. Locolat Cafe, 18th and Florida.

      1. Trader Joe's seems to have brought back Sipping Chocolate this year. It was MIA last year. I saw some at the Bailey's Crossroads store week before last, then last week the shelf was empty but the price tag was still there, so I guess they're expecting another shipment. If you make it like the instructions it's like drinking a chocolate bar.

I suppose that ACKC probably serves something like that, for the price, or more, of a whole can at TJ's.

Au Pain Quotidien has good bittersweet cocoa.

I always buy about 3 tins of that sipping chocolate from Trader Joe's; it rivals even my fancy Blanxart drinking chocolate, and can double as a churro dip.

          2. Radius Pizza on Mt. Please just brought back their hot chocolate. It's closer to drinking chocolate but has spices I couldn't identify as well. Regardless, it's really good and available for delivery.

            1. Agree with the ACKC recommendation. A bit overpriced - but very good! I also had a very delicious hot chocolate at Buzz in Alexandria. It seemed to have both cinnamon and a spicy pepper (chipotle maybe?). Anyways, it was delicious.

I think they might have a HC happy hour some days.

              2. Last year I tried CoCo Sala's and it was unreal. They had different strengths - one was so chocolatey it came in more of an espresso size.

                1. I second Locolat Cafe in Adams Morgan. Belgium chocolate at its best!

                  1. I went to ACKC for hot chocolate today with a friend. For the first time ever, we were in there alone. Usually it's packed. I ordered the Belgian hot chocolate, half whole and half skim. For the first time ever (no doubt because they weren't busy), the guy asked me if I wanted milk, dark or bittersweet chocolate -- I didn't know that was an option. I chose half dark and half bittersweet. (60% vs. 72%). It was excellent -- much better than what I've had there before, and what I'd had before was delicious. I also have now learned to ask for it to be served extra hot, as I've gotten it lukewarm in the past. Next time, I think I'll go for 100% bittersweet. So, with these improvements, the hot chocolate at ACKC is even better.

P.S. Personally, I prefer the Belgian chocolate as opposed to the "diva" flavored hot chocolates, which I think have a bit too much going on.
