When i first ate here was about six months ago, and I loved it so much I wanted to come once week. Husband pickier than I, so it didn't work out that way. We had an early dinner for 4 last night--6pm, and again, I had trouble choosing from the interesting menu. Cuisine is Abruzzese, and there is a new chef since our first time.
So, I started with homemade sausage over polenta with some red peppers on top; husband chose a red and yellow beet salad, which looked like a work of art that he hated digging into. But, he did, and thought it was marvelous. The Sausiche was better than most, by far--not too spicy, but assertive; quite salty, but paired with the very lightly seasoned polenta bed it was fantastic to enjoy.
For mains we both wound up choosing the crispy chicken livers--mine paired with risotto, as it was meant to be; his paired with the creamy polenta. served in a rustic ceramic brown bowl that held the heat it was country fare at its best, and very delicious. Wish I could make chicken livers like that--four huge livers, delectable. Risotto was again creamier than I'm used to, but a most tasty pairing.
Husband wasn't about to share his tiarmasu made with limoncello--but the tiny taste I snagged conformed it was a delicate as it looked, and I couldn't blame him for being selfish. My "bonet' was a kind of chocolate creme brulee in a mold with caramel sauce over it--the same yummy dessert I ordered six months ago.
Total bill: $83 for a most satisfying meal. Excellent warm service. Quiet at first (6pm) for maybe an hour, but it did get quite noisey when full around 7pm. Yeah, I'd still like to eat this kind of authentic Italian food about once a week. In any case, I'm not going to let 6 months go by. I saw lots of choices on the menu that I'd like to try out. Snagged a parking spot on Passyunk a block from Le Virtu; on the early side parking is not that bad.
We were there a few weeks ago, and I also had the chicken liver and risotto entree.
I loved it! It was so good that I can't wait to return and order it again.
It's not on their online menu, which worried me, so I'm glad you had it just recently.
When we were there, everyone's dinner was rated excellent.
We were there on a Sunday, rather early, and it was not crowded. My husband always finds street parking.
