Cleveland Restaurant Recs Taylor and Fairmount area

We are a couple going to a small concert next Friday (12/17) that starts at 8:30 PM looking for a dinner place in the area. I am familiar with Cleveland having lived in the eastern burbs since mid 70's, just don't frequent this area much. We will be driving in on 271 from the east and the concert is near this intersection. We're pretty flexible on what we like, bistro, Italian, Latin, sushi, Thai, local tavern with good food etc. as long as they have good quality food and a few good wines available by the glass. Price range acceptable is anything up to about $60 - $70/person for salad, entree and a couple glasses of wine. Looking forward to hearing everyone's excellent suggestions.

Thanks

  1. Taste, Brennan's Colony, The Tavern Company and Marotta's are all nearby. Each has been promising in its own way during my visits, but it's been a long time since I've been to some of them and I think there may have been chef changes at at least a couple of them. Brennan's and The Tavern Company are both pub-ish. Marotta's is small and may require a wait.

Slightly further away are Bodega and Pacific East. Pacific East has decent sushi and some good Malaysian food. I haven't been to Bodega since their chef moved on, but I liked it during his tenure. I've been meaning to go back. I hear they've added some Moroccan dishes to the menu and I'm interested in trying them.

Don't overlook the wonderful Cambodian food cooked and served by the Chham family.
Fine food served in modest but friendly atmosphere. One of our long time favorites.

    2. Not too far at Cedar and Taylor is Cafe Tandoor my personal favorite of Cleveland's slim pickings of Indian places on the east side. Everyone I've taken there (who wasn't vegetarian) has loved their meat samosas.

      1. You didn't mention Turkish food, but I like Anatolia Cafe on Lee Road quite a bit. Also second the rec for Cafe Tandoor. I'm probably in the minority of Eastsiders on this one, but I've got no love for Brennan's Colony or the Tavern Company.

        1. I will second the recommendation for Anatolia Cafe. I think Tavern Company might have been better when they had ribs, but I was there about a year ago and they had stopped serving them. I don't think Brennan's is anything special either-- fine if you are going out with a bunch of friends, but not so great for date night. The food at Tandoor and Anatolia is equally good in my opinion, but the ambiance at Anatolia is much better (updated decor, more privacy between tables, slightly better service). I used to love Mekong River for carryout (the dining atmosphere, particularly the neon lighting, is unsettling) but found a dead spider in my curry once and now I'm having a difficult time going back there...

So yeah. Anatolia it is. Or Tandoor if you have something against Turkish food.
