La Genovese at Donatella

Went to dinner at Donatella, the newish pizza-focused place on 8th Ave and 19th St. Place is about what you'd expect: nicely designed, a bit loud, very Chelsea crowd.

Somehow was not in the mood for pizza and saw Paccheri alla Genovese on the menu--a really classic Neapolitan dish hard to find in restaurants in Naples and one you never see in New York. I have to say this version was very good. Pasta was perfectly cooked. Sauce was rich and had obviously been cooked for the requisite hours. We're making it at home tomorrow so I'll have to see how mine compares. I liked the place. Next time I will try the pizza, which I guess is the real reason you should be coming here.

  1. i can't say i'm not curious about this place, but at the same time, can't help but wonder if this isn't why Mangieri left New York. the number of "Neapolitan" places that have opened in the past few years is staggering.

      True, but really none of those Neapolitan places serve anything Neapolitan except pizza, do they?
