Better Bobby Flay restaurant

My husband's favorite TV Chef is Bobby Flay and for his 30th birthday I am thinking about taking him to NYC (he has never been) and taking him to either Mesa Grill or Bar Americain. Can you tell me which in your opinion has beter food and which is beter ambiance for a birthday?

Mesa Grill is loud, but exciting. The decor is colorful and great fun for a birthday party. I think your husband would enjoy it very much if Bobby Flay is his favorite.

Bar Americain, at the bar, is pretty interesting. I've been going there for a few years now. I concentrate on the apps.

Two differents types of food, for starters. I favor Mesa Grill because I like spicy food. I find it also more festive.

For the style Flay is known for cooking on TV - Southwestern American - certainly Mesa Grill. As to general quality, they're both good - Mesa does the SW thing, BA is more an all-over-the-American-map kind of place. I think you'll get more of a feel for Flay the Chef (not that he's ever in the kitchen anywhere besides Kitchen Stadium these days) at MG, though.

Flay is often in his kitchens. Mesa Grill gives you the dishes by which he made his name. The best advice is to avoid busy nights when the restaurants can be so slammed that the kitchen is not at its best.
