Need Rec - Bayview or Mt. Pleasant Restaurant strip

With so many restaurants on these streets we would like to try something new..but which one to choose. Any recommendations for something delicious?

Vero on Bayview is always a good choice, and there's a brand new one called l"Avenue that looks good but haven't tried it.

Vero is (always) garbage. I think Segar is closed. Amaya is all but unrecognizable from what is once was. The thai restos on bayview are all bad, there is Bazaar on mt. pleasant that just opened- but the menu is possibly the worst i have ever seen. simple bistro is right on the money every time. mogette has an uber-confused front of house team that is unconcerned about being the least bit hospitable and unqualified even if they had an interest. penrose fish and chips is great. every single restaurant on that stretch of bayview is simply poor. the best food on 'south bayview' is a montreal smoked meat on poppy seed bagel at the bagel house, IMHO. bigmans, kamasutra, verdi, the two sushi places, highway 61, originals, mcsorleys, fiesta azteca, vero, amaya (ESPECIALLY amaya express), riz and its sister lemongrass...all are bad. maybe chai on the east side of bayview. not too bad at all.

You are right about Segar. It is now l'Avenue bistro (on Bayview, lol). I don't know whether Segar just rebranded or finally sold the restaurant (it had been on the market for some time).

Wen to L'Avenue on the weekend. Very traditional French bistro cuisine with limited menu but everything we tried was very good. Warm knowledgeable service. Good wine selection. Will return.

Simple, Zee Grill, and Segar are go to places for us.
      Enjoy all three.
Wish there was something similar in the York Mills wasteland.

Try Segar. Open 7 days, including lunch.
One of my best finds this year.

Can you tell us what you have tried in that area?

I love Zee Grill, and Simple Bistro has been getting great reviews.

Second TorontoJo's recs. Brunch as Simple was surprisingly reasonably priced.

For a special luxe lunch, I like the prix fixe lunch at Lai Toh Heen.

I second Zee Grill (also called Phebes.) They have some of the best seafood around and they do seasonal dishes. Their seafood succotash (usually available for a few weeks in Sept/Oct) is not to be missed.
