At a meeting with both parties Monday, officials from the Bureau of Street Services granted the market a one-month permit extension and suggested organizers think about relocating the displaced vendors nearby. They proposed moving part of the market either to Morningside Court, a narrow street parallel to Ivar; to a nearby Urban Outfitters parking lot located off Ivar; or to a stretch of Ivar north of Hollywood Boulevard."

North of a major boulevard? Why not just call it two separate markets at that point?

What bullshit. (Excuse my language... the LA Film School can go to Hell and bake bagels for Satan for all I care.)

seriously. if they need more parking, maybe they should stop renting it to FARMER'S MARKET patrons.

and honestly, im' a little sad that this issue is not getting more attention here. i bet if the film school tried to shut down sushi gen the whole board would be out picketing, but i guess the HFM is not that important.

not sure about sushi gen but if they were to shut down sushi zo i think people from this board would be picketing right now ;)

the sad thing about this is that apparently, they have no classes scheduled for sunday mornings now or in the future. it is a "school" so perhaps people need lab time? from 8-1 at best. really? on a sunday? surely something could be worked out but sounds like the school is out to get the market out. really depressing.

Agree-I've parked in their bldg. many times & they have happily taken my money-why would they want to stop doing that ??

Why does the Film School have to take the whole street back ?
They don't own the street, why do they get to kick the merchants off it ?

Seems really strange the city would go along with this..

Read the whole LA Times article posted above. It explains why they are able to do this, for the most part. (New regulations for Farmer's Markets requiring local businesses to sign off.)

Agreed it totally sucks. What I don't get is why they would be able to control closing Ivar above Selma. Most articles about this seem to imply that all of Ivar is off limits now, but none have explicitly said if it's just below Selma.

First rate farmers vs 4th rate film school's third parking garage. This city stinks.

4th rate film school's big shots versus commoners = patrons of HFM.
            Guess who wins?

What I don't understand is WHY??? the film school must know that people in the industry, even if they just talk about going once in a while, LOVE the idea of a Hollywood Farmers Market. If you got a 'degree' from this film school, would you want to go into an interview with that on your resume? 'Oh, so you studied with the jerks who made it more difficult for my Tiphany to get her num-nums, eh?'
It's Sunday, do they really need the space more than they don't need the bad publicity?
