What's the best restaurant in Old Town?

I need a great spot for lunch for visit to Old Town. Last time we had a lovely lunch at Topo Gigio. What would you recommend?

  1. It depends on the type of food/atmosphere you like and the day of the week. Several of the places I personally like aren't open for lunch during the week (Salpicon, Adobo Grill, Trattoria Roma, Twin Anchors) but do serve lunch and/or brunch on weekends. Some places I can think of off the top of my head that do serve lunch on weekdays are Bistrot Margot, Dinotto Ristorante, Old Jerusalem and Old Town Social. I'm sure others can offer additional recommendations

    Bistrot Margot
    1437 N. Wells, Chicago, IL 60610

    Old Jerusalem Restaurant
    1411 N Wells St, Chicago, IL 60610

    Dinotto Restaurant
    215 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60610

    1. Another option is Marge's Still on Sedwick at Menomonee. It's a bar, but I think they have very good food and a nice pub/old school wooden feel.

      Marge's Still
      1758 N Sedgwick St, Chicago, IL 60614

I frequent Marge's, good burgers and sandwiches and my GF loves the grilled salmon salad. They serve ribs that are smoked on site, which I prefer to the ones at Twin Anchors but I like TA's sauce better. Lunch is only served Friday through Sunday, so Marge's would be another option if Breadcrumbs will be here on one of those days.

      2. Try Perennial -wonderful food and view of the park.

If you just want a good sandwich, consider Twisted Sister bakery with maybe gelato at the new place on Wells.

Marge's is my neighborhood pub but the food is really shaky - more so recently.

Perennial is not open for lunch during the week, only dinner and weekend brunch. And it's in Lincoln Park, near but not in Old Town.

Ah well ... It's what, two blocks from north and wells? We consider it one of our locals.

I really would hesitate on the Marge's suggestion - last time I went for food rather than just neighbors drinking, I ordered a steak sandwich thinking that was hard to mess up and it was awful - barely cooked and tough. My companion's turkey burger was equally bad and we shook our heads over once again being so disappointed.

        2. Thanks so much everyone! You've given me some great options to check out and I really appreciate your help.
