Cardoon or Cardone
Does anyone know where I can buy fresh Cardoon in the LA area? - it's an Italian vegetable that looks like a celery stalk and tastes like an artichoke heart.
My Sicilian mother used to boil it, dip it in egg and flour, and fry it up in a little olive oil.
Your most likely bet would be one of the larger farmer's markets. Either the Wednesday Santa Monica market or the Sunday Hollywood market.

Try Italian-American supermarkets.
I've seen it at Claro's OC location, and I'm assuming their LA locations would also carry it.

Saw it today at Wholesome Choice in Anaheim Hills. I'd imagine that Irvine would have it too.
