Informal Birthday Dinner- Quirky Suggestions?

in bocca Dec 7, 2010 09:33 AM

I have a birthday coming up and would love a new, informal, funky spot to try with friends. There may be up to 10 of us. I am open to all types of cuisine and price ranges. Any thoughts?

I assume you mean somewhere in the Wilmington area (let us know if that is not correct!) I wish "funky" were a part of the landscape here, but sadly, it is not. For true funkiness you will probably need to go to Philly.

If I had ten people going out to dinner, I would make a reservation for a big table at a Korean barbecue. Kahl-Bee Korean can accommodate this (I haven't tried the other Korean place in Newark but it is worth considering). This kind of eating is fun for everyone and works best with a group. You can knock back a lot of beer with Korean food, too.

      Funk is tough.

I've had a great group time at Okura in their Japanese style private rooms.

It would be funky to take over Miale (sp?), that lunch and sausage place in Wilmington.

Margaret Kuo's Peking in the Granite Run Mall is a little far but the great place to go.

Sushi there is NOT the reason we go, but Chinese dishes are excellent. We always get Peking Duck special complete with all the trimmings, Chef will demonstrate trimming right in front of you.

Yes, Wilmington area. I love the idea of Kahl-Bee!

How about Casablanca? If you like your quirk with a bit of silly, the belly dancers can be a kick.

Just remember that the belly dancers are only there on weekends. We had great meals there, but no belly dancers during the week.
