Where can I find a traditional Charlotte Russe?
Anyone know where I could buy a traditional Charlotte Russe? Distance and cost are not issues. I understand from my research that the cardboard pop-ups are difficult to find but I'm hoping there is one bakery left in the area who is still making this Brooklyn favorite. Thanks!
You might call Lulu's Bakery on Union Turnpike in Queens: (718) 454-4300. I *think* they used to have them there.

Charlotte russe, on the other hand, is alive and well at Teena’s. A white cardboard tube holds sponge cake topped with cream and a cherry. The study paper base to the tube is mobile. You push the bottom contents up as you eat the top.
Other charlotte russe sources are slim. One that disappeared was Philip’s Candy Shop right on Surf Avenue at the Stillwell Avenue subway terminus. Tiny Philip’s, full of colorful, Coney Island-spirited sweets, disappeared when the station underwent a major renovation recently. New sources crop up, fortunately.
