Induction cookware - Any light weight quality cookware?

Hi, I'm new to the board and hope this is the right place to post. We are completing a new house and my kitchen is my ultimate dream! We've installed a Miele induction range top and I'm looking for new cookware. Since I have arthritis in wrists and hands, I can't lift the heavy weight pots 'n pans from many of the high end induction cookware manufacturers, never-mind filled with hot water, etc. For 40+ years, I've used my copper-bottomed Revere-ware pots and pans and can lift these easily with full pans of water, including my 20 qt Lobster pot. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that carries light weight, high quality induction ready pots and pans, preferably with protective (non-heat transfer) handles and glass covers?

  1. Wal-Mart has Tramontina on sale. They have price rollbacks on 3 sets ranging from $149 to 219. Just last week these same sets were $279 - $299. The $149 is a new set they added.

    I think this is the lightest quality cookware that you will find that is induction compatible with the exception of probably Farberware.

    Farberware has a 12 piece set on their website on sale for $95 that they state is induction compatible:

    I only mentioned SS cookware but there might be some non-stick cookware that might interest you such as the Circulon Infinite line. It's anodized aluminum with induction compatible base. I had the non-induction compatible line. It was OK but didn't like the ridges in the bottom which are part of the non-stick properties of their pans.

    1. BTW, I just bought the Tramontina 10 piece set for $199. I needed sauce pans/stock pot to complete my induction compatible set. I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I don't do a whole lot of cooking requiring saucepans and such but wanted something of decent quality. Tramontina seemed to fit this requirement.

      1. I agree with the Tramontina recommendations. I love my Tramontina pasta pot. Another option is the Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Steel series. I believe that Cuisinart Mulitclad Pro cookware is also induction-compatible.

        Don't forget that carbon steel pans work great on induction cooktops.

        For nonstick, Swiss Diamond makes an induction-compatible line. I also like De Buyer CHOC Induction cookware. As another poster mentioned, Infinite Circulon is induction-compatible. So is the Anolon Nouvelle Copper line.

          I received my Tramontina today that I bought at WalMart. I should've known it was going to all made in China...explains the lower price.

          I am going to return it because I prefer the Mauviel & Demeyere lines and will just buy the individual pieces that I want and need instead.

          But from a weight standpoint you can't beet it. You will find that even the 11" pan is not that heavy.

          I think this is your best bet.

          I didn't like the Berndes line at all.

          The Demeyere works great with my GE Induction Stove though. I love it. But you pay for that in price and weight. My Demeyere Induction Control Pan is HEAVY.

        2. The Demeyere Apollo line is the weight of standard stainless steel cookware, with only a not-very-heavy disk fused to the bottom of most pieces.

          Berndes sells some aluminum cookware made in China (but designed by Berndes in Germany) that has embedded steel "polka dots" to make them induction compatible, and they often can be found at Tuesday Morning outlet stores.

          The really cheap enameled steel pans found alongside the disposable aluminum lasagna pans at many supermarkets are usually induction compatible and very light in weight. Take a magnet with you to the supermarket and check them out.

          1. I would personally look into the Ikea Favorit line of tri-ply stainless cookware (they have some cast iron pieces in the same line, avoid those! lol)

            Those are some of the lighter tri-ply pans I've seen. The "Giada" tri-ply at target are also thin-ish but not sure how light they are. Lighter then all clad though I think.

            Also try cast aluminum induction capable pans, though I'm not sure how light they are. May fit the bill.
