New hot dog place on Freret?

hamsandwich Dec 6, 2010 12:57 PM

It looks like a new place is moving into a space on Freret (between Soniat and Robert). It doesn't look like anything is in there yet but there's some Dr. Bob-ish looking signs on the outside with a big hot dog and "Dat Dog" written on it. I LOVE hot dogs...does anyone know anything?

So someone from the New Freret association came into my office today and I asked her about it. Turns out there are two new places joining Uptown. Not only are we getting a Chicago-style hot dog joint, we are also getting a new Chicago deep dish pizza place!

Looks like Freret is getting quite a few new businesses.

I'm pulling for 'em..I remember when Bill Long fought so hard to get that area fixed up and then someone shot him. Infuriating. Maybe it will work this time.

Long's Bakery and Long's Variety Store. Good memories with a bad ending.

I used to live on Jena near there a few years before it happened. Horrible. People forget how ruff things used to be back then. Things really have gotten better in this town. Seems like Ferret street is trying hard to turn the corner. Count me in for a great hotdog place.

remember Frank's steak place? It wasn't the best around but I liked to go there. You'd see Bill in there and I liked to tease him about his king cake or something like that. I don't remember if they ever caught the killer but we all wanted to be on the jury.

Gosh, I had forgotten about Frank's. Nor sure i ever went, Charlie's was too close. They did catch the killers, a pair of juveniles if I recall correctly.
