The weather is getting colder and it is time for soup! Besides pho (an often discussed subject here), where are some good soups in OC?

I second the cocky-leeky at Rutabegorz, and add that
they, too, make a pretty mean chicken tortilla
soup.

Although there's not much soup in the bowl, the
meat, vegetables & cheese pretty much fill the bowl.

So is it still called soup??

Noodle Avenue on Redhill in Tustin does some tastey "asain" soups for cheap. They offer a variety of noodles and meat add-ins.

If you want to eat it while cuddled up at home I would suggest the VONS Signature Soups (preferably from their Hot-Soup self-serve counter where you can sample about 5 or 6 varieties that change daily). I put it into a hollowed-out sourdough or french bread loave that is sold right next to the soups (along with some pre-packaged croutons and moist and tasty cornbread). My favorites are the Tuscan Tomato Bisque, Three Mushroom, Steakhouse Chili, & Cravin Crab. Delicious!

Those Signature soups (in their own little hot stand) are surprisingly good. Not all, but many. My favorite is the potatoe soup. It tastes like a baked potatoe with cheese and bacon and a little onion on it. Best potatoe soup I've had.

I like the Chicken Vegetable soup at Harbor House. The vegetables are cut into large pieces -- Mexican style. This is like home-made. They offer a soup and sandwich meal that is pretty good. As good as it is I still have a hard time not ordering the Steak & eggs breakfast. A real value for the price. At the Sunset Beach location I like sitting at a front window booth. On a rainy night it is nice to look out at PCH as you enjoy your soup. My wife and I drive from SGV just to do that. A seat at the counter is always nice as well. Just don’t accept a table way in the back “patio” room. It is worth the wait to get a table in the original front section. The crew is always cool -- good people! We have been to the Dana Point location also. The food, service and beach café ambiance is just the same. Open 24 hrs.
