Dinners for a group
I'll be in New Orleans with a group of about 15 in mid January. We're staying at the Ritz. We'll be tied up in meetings all day but I'd love some dinner suggestions.
I'd prefer that they be walking distance from the hotel but I can be convinced to get a bunch of cabs for a good dinner.
We''re there for 3 nights. I'm looking for one dinner at a nicer place. $50-60 a head? I have no idea what NO restaurant prices are like.
One of the dinners should be a more casual place.
At at least one of the dinners I should *know* I'm in New Orleans - I can get italian or chinese or neuvo latino anywhere. I want be able to close my eyes take a bite and know where I am.
The I'm in New Orleans choice should be Galatoire's which is around the corner from the back door at The Ritz a few doors from Iberville. You can only get reservations upstairs and most desire to dine downstairs. Get in line if there is one which probably won't be if you dine during the week. An outstanding choice would be Emeril's in the CBD. I walk there but ladies may want a cab for the short ride. Emeril also has an outstanding restaurant of similar quality in the FQ that's a short walk. NOLA is very nice. Domenica and Luke are both John Besh restaurants that are more casual. Domenica is Italian and Luke is more French. They are in the CBD but not a long walk. Domenica is in Roosevelt Hotel across Canal from Ritz. Be sure to go to Davenport Lounge in Ritz around 9 PM on Thur/Friday/Saurday to hear Jeremy Davenport's outstanding jazz.

I hosted some dinners about a month ago from the Ritz. In that case we walked across Canal to Cuvee and MiLa. Both places were well received by my group. In the Quarter would be Galatoire's and Mr. B's.
There are other one's but I'm thinking quieter places where a large table can still converse. I've heard some good things on GW Finns but have never been there and haven't heard anything about it here on CH.
Most good restaurants prefer not to handle anything over a ten top (service can get muddled when wait staff and captains get shuffled) so you may want to think of making reservations as two eights or smaller groups.
