Bakeries in San Miguel de Allende

  • 6

Hello, I am looking for places to order desserts, cakes, cupcakes, pies, etc. in San Miguel de Allende. I am getting married there next fall and want to have a large dessert table and have not been impressed with the options the caterer we are working with has provided.

Any recommendations on local bakeries, etc and how I can contact them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ditto that. Met the chef/owner recently at a conference. His food - savory as well as sweet - was outstanding. He also speaks excellent English if that's an issue.

    2. Check out La Buena Vida- Outrageous cookie, pastries and breads. It's a little hole in the wall but worth finding. They also have a stand at the Saturday organic market. Probably the best in town. 72 Hernandez Macias, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

      1. I haven't tried any of their pastries, but this place seems to have great looking stuff.

        1. Petit Four has beautiful, beautiful desserts but many (most) aren't fabulous tasting.
I would pick and choose carefully.
Their apple cream tart is delicious. Some chocolate desserts are not.
Cookies look good but I can't speak about them except to say I never had one that I loved.
So, before you order, see if you can taste different ones.
Jason at Cafe Rama makes some good desserts. Costly, but good.
Kris at Buen Cafe makes a good mocha cake. Not special looking, but very good. (Probably she could doll it up!)
Melissa at Buena Vida has good scones, some good cookies. I've never seen a cake there, though.
Happy wedding. You've picked a great town!

          1. Before you make any decision, talk to Miguel at Cumpanio (Correo 29, Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Gto., P.C. 37700, tel. 415-152-2327, web: www.cumpanio.com). While we agree the sweets at Petit Four are very good, Miguel is willing to try whatever you want and is very personable. We like Cumpanio's Danish pastries very, very much. Their bread, BTW, is the best in town (our opinion of course). There is a tiny cupcake store near the corner of Canal and Hidalgo (on the west side of the street).
