Red Velvet Cake -- Recommendations?
A couple months ago I had a very good dessert of Red Velvet Cake at Spoto's Oyster Bar on PGA in West Palm Beach. I had never had red velvet cake before, nor have I had it since.
On my last visit there, I learned it's an occasional menu item, not served all the time.
I'm seeking recommendations on where I can find it, in Miami or in Broward or Palm Beach counties. I live in Miami and regularly go to West Palm Beach so I have no trouble going out-of-the-way. I'm thinking of this as a carryout item, rather than planning a meal or destination around it, so any suggestions are welcome for bakeries or restaurants that do it well.
Any insight is appreciated . . . thanks.
In my opinion the BEST red velvet cupcake is at Buttercream Cupcakes in Coral Gables
I've had red velvet cakes from many famous bakeries in New York and not one compares to this cake. The cake is so moist and the frosting is delicious.
Last year my husband and I tried the Red Velvet Cake for the first time while we were in Florida...I hated it but he loved it and kept ordering it wherever we went ...He thought the one at The Flashback Diner in Hallandale was the best...I tried it and still didn't like it but the portion was gigantic and we ended up taking it home ..had it for dessert / snack three times!!

Most people will loathe this rec, but Publix sells a 1/3 or 1/2 red velvet cake for around $6 to $7. I eat 2 a month from Publix alone.....hehe. I think the cake has a small amount of cocoa powder, maybe a tablespoon, to give it a bit of that flavor. The frosting is typically of the cream cheese variety. This is my favorite cake no doubt.
Relish in WPB has a good red velvet milkshake but it won't satisfy a red velvet craving. It has the cake mixed in vanilla ice cream and is served with a mini red velvet cupcake.
