I LOVE my Zojirushi Cool Sports stainless steel vacuum bottle. It holds half a liter, and keeps my water nice and cold.

In all honesty, a water bottle is environment if it can be reused. A long lasting water bottle is environment. Not to go to far off, but all these greenpans you read that is supposed to be good for the environment... well, they are not that green afterall. Yes, they are slightly more environmental when they are made, but they have a shorter lifespan, so you end up buying more of them. Same logic applies to waterbottles.

As for safe to use, I think they are all same to use if you are drinking room temperature liquid from them. For hot liquid, you may want to stick with something like glass water bottles or stainless steel water bottles.

As for easy to clean, just pick one with a wide opening and less reactive.

      This may fit your need:

I like a straw, so I prefer the Thermos Hydration bottle, the one button pop up lid is convenient. But watch out, the lids will crack if dropped. Multiple designs are available.

I love the sigg aluminum bottles for cool water, use them every day. The water stays very clean-tasting, and the added plus, they look good too ;-).
Recently have picked a couple up at TJ Maxx/Homegoods type places for $10, but really they are worth their regular price for durability and quality.
Plus, if you order from the site there are many choices of size & style:
