Kasu Paste and Water Chestnut Flour (Caltrop) in LA

carln Dec 4, 2010 03:01 PM

Does anyone have any idea where i can find either of these ingredients? I have checked 99 ranch, shun fat and mitsuwa and none had either. Ive also tried looking online but cant find either via an online store either. LA sources are preferable but any would be appreciated.

Thanks

I went by Nijiya yesterday and the lady there said that there was a problem with the supplier and that they didnt have it. I will try Mitsuwa in Torrance next

I was at the Mitsuwa Torrance yesterday, and I didn't see it by the miso refrigerator case, where it usually is. You might wanna call before making the drive.

This is the time of year when amazake is traditionally served, so I was surprised to see they were out.

I actually went by Mitsuwa in west LA again today and they now have it. I had asked about it around a week ago and it came in yesterday.

Mitsuwa Torrance and Costa Mesa both stock sakekasu. Which one did you go to?

The Mar Vista Mitsuwa has the least inventory of the Mitsuwas that I've been to. If you're West LA-centric, I'd give Nijiya a try first, unless Torrance is more convenient for you...

I've seen sake kasu paste at Nijiya but I'd call first. I think water chestnut flour would be found at a Chinese market, but if 99 Ranch didn't have it, I'd try Hawaii or 168.
