Salty Xoco

Two of us went for lunch last week at Rick Bayless' much-heralded Xoco. We had two tortas...a chicken and the house special carnitas. Both were WAY over salted. It was hard to tell exactly what caused the saltiness. I'm not sure it was the meat...perhaps the bean spread? I like salt and am used to the fact that midwest food is generally liberally salted, but this was noticeably over the top. Maybe just an off day?

My husband went there last Thursday for dinner and said the same. He had a bad stomach ache afterwards.

We went to his place in Macy's Old Orchard earlier this year and were not impressed with the food there either. Hmmm....

If you want to experience the creativity that Rick Bayless is capable of, go to Topolobampo or Frontera Grill, rather than Xoco or his Frontera Express fast-food places.

I don't like too much salt myself, but LITERALLY my g/f and I eat there at least once a week, to the point where they know our names. That being said, they obviously do use salt but I can maybe remember only once or twice in the past year that it was overpowering. Give it another whirl
