Coming to Ft. Lauderdale in a couple weeks from San Francisco, planning to drive down to Key West for a day or two then come back up to Ft. Lauderdale. (Total length is 3 days [after a cruise])

Traveling with my family (parents and younger brother [college age])

What kinds of places would you recommend a major foodie to stop at during the trip (Key West, Ft. Lauderdale, on the way, etc)?

For restaurants, I'm not looking for fancy, super pricey places. I just want some local picks (especially for cuban sandwiches and key lime pie). We're not picky eaters and are quite adventurous. (But that's probably because we're Chinese and eat everything anyway. haha) Also, since Chinese food can be touch and go , any good recommendations? (To please the parents, who although will try anything, would still like to eat Chinese food from time to time. But also remember that they will be comparing it to Chinese food in the Bay Area. haha)

I'd also love some non-restaurant places to stop at (if any), farmers markets, cool ethnic markets, factories for cool local food.

I know the answers to my questions are probably elsewhere, but I don't even know where to begin and what to search for, so tips on that would be great too!
Thanks!

Chase I think there's a south-florida specific forum that would be of better help to you...

Oh well, I was going to suggest this place http://www.robertishere.com/xcart/hom... as farmers market (produce stand) type of stop. I'll be heading down to Key West myself on 12/17. I'll make sure I have the fun you'll be missing!!! Just kidding. I've been going down for 20 years, and this is just a four night relaxation trip for the wife and I before the big Christmas (stress) holiday really starts. I'll wait until it warms up (like maybe late April) to start going down on the normal fishing trips (Lower Keys not Key West).
