Holiday dinner/lunch for group in central NJ- Hamilton,Bordentown, Trenton area....Help!

Boss just asked me to sched. holiday lunch/or dinner for staff, about 15 ppl. Not much time, so I can use any recommendations for local places that are casual, good food & drinks. Our group can get a bit loud with talking & laughing!

  1. The one place that comes to mind is Oliver a Bistro in Bordentown. Another one to consider is Rats in Hamilton for the beautiful grounds and room. The food has received mixed reviews and I understand their chef, Kevin Sbraga, winner of last season's top chef has recently left to open his own place in Philadelphia. Good Luck.

Yes, I was wondering about Oliver a Bistro. Have you been to Marcello's in Bordentown, that's another one that I've heard was pretty good.

I've never been to Marcello's. However, I would seek out the advice of NJFoodies. He is the authority for restaurants in that area of Jersey. Good luck.

    2. What kind of budget are you talking? Should it serve alcohol?

Boss is fairly generous with the budget :) and we would prefer to have a bar available for ordering drinks.

      2. If you are looking to stay in Bordentown, you should try Toscano's. They have a bar. I remember them having a great bolognese sauce. Another great place for a big party of people is Spigola (love their eggplant rolletini appetizer with a glass on montepuliciano!!!)

        1. I'd also consider Farnsworth House. They have a comfortable amount of space for group outings and a bar. The food is always decent. You might even be able to get a private room.

          1. What about Spigola, the Italian restaurant in Hamilton?

            1. Tons of great options here! I would suggest either Oliver-A Bistro or Under the Moon (they are now open in their larger location). Either of those are our go to's in Bordentown. The Farnsworth House and Toscano are also awesome options. Marcello's is yet another option.

Any of these restaurants will be able to accomodate you so long as they are not already booked. Oliver-A Bistro and Under the Moon are both BYOB, so keep that in mind. The Farnsworth House and Toscano have bars. If you have anyone in your group that is a big beer geek, I would go The Farnsworth House route as they have an incredible beer selection of 22-25 beers on tap.

Another option is to go the hibachi route and go to Houseki Asian Fusion in the Shoppes at Hamilton on Route 130. We have had some absolutely amazing meals there as of late. This too is BYO.

              Hope that helps! -mJ

              1. > holiday lunch/or dinner for staff

I like a late lunch party that lasts until 3 or so at the latest and then we all go home a bit early.
My other preference is for the boss to just give us each the $150 and we all go home early.

                1. Thanks for all of the suggestions, most of them I have followed up on already. Haven't heard of Under the Moon, but will check it out as well. Boss hasn't made a final determination yet, but, you know how that goes. Graydon, I am with you on your preferences, unfortunately it's not my choice...boss rules out!
