Romantic Birthday Dinner Recommendation
My wife's birthday is this Monday (December 6). I had plans for the theater and a romantic dinner in the Hartford, CT area until she told me yesterday that she has to fly to Miami on Monday for a business meeting on Tuesday. Since her company is paying for her hotel, I decided to grab the same flights and travel with her. We will be staying at the Conrad on Brickell but I have been to Miami many times and have taken taxis from SoBe to Coconut Grove. I am looking for something romantic. It is not every day that one gets to spend their birthday in Miami (unless you live there). I do not eat seafood but she is willing to try just about anything once. I have tried searching but the messages I have pulled up are very outdated and some restaurants mentioned have since closed. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to recommend a new spot to you that I have started to enjoy and had a nice date at last week. Vino e Olio in the Design District could be your spot. It's new and the restaurant is gorgeously designed. The menu seems a little pricey at first glance but it's really not that bad. We ended up sharing an app, pasta, and a main and the bill, with tax/tip, came to about $95. That was without any alcohol though. I thought the service was great and the GM came by a few times and made us feel very welcome. For you I'd recommend the eggplant parm/sweetbreads/burrata app (Id say the scallop/shrimp app but note that you dont like seafood), both the gnudi and tagliolini have phenomenal flavor, and the suckling pig (or seabass if she likes fish - it was incredibly good when I had it last visit). The orange carpaccio is also a great way to end a meal.

Haha, yes it was enough. I was actually full. Looking back, however, they may have given us each an entree because the portions seemed to be regular size, not split. I know the bill was definitely $95 w/ tax/tip included so maybe the server realized we wanted to split after accidentally entering 2 entrees and then just charged for 1? I dunno but bottom line is that the app and pasta were filling on their own and the fish brought it all home. On my first visit, I was skeptical of this restaurant because of the pricing but the gnudi and tagliolini really impressed me and the scallop/shrimp app just missed because the scallops were overcooked a tad. Definitely impressed me on my second visit and my date felt the same way. The staff is very hospitable too which I thought was rewarding seeing that Miami is known for shitty service in a lot of restaurants.
