Odd that this thread came up again....I saw them on the Stage Deli's Menu today. While I did not order them...Stage is know for some quality. I did think of this thread when I saw it.

I picked up a #45 The Producers. Corned Beef, Pickled Cow Tongue, Lettuce, Tomato, Hot Mustard on the Stage Rye. I tossed in a bit of Horseradish.

    2. Apart from Fran O'Brians which I tried last year, I've yet to find the real deal fried clam here in the Metro area. It's only a 12 hour drive to the east coast though, which has crossed my mind more than once.

      1. I miss the same thing myself - and have not found anything since I left New England. I took my mother back to Revere Beach once and as a beach front place shack opened up and saw us eyeing his clam buckets, and as a joke grabbed his knife and went "Back! Back!".
However, the closest in Milwaukee (sorry, not detroit) is a sushi place that does fried oysters,
Try that as a reasonable substitute. Locally $8 a decent sized plate.

        1. The Old Port Inn, 278 East 14 Mile Road, Clawson MI has them at $6.95 for the whole dinner deal. They were like the Bill Knapp's style I remembered. Not a bad lunch.

          1. I'm at Redcoat Tavern ATM, and they have fried clams on the menu as an appetizer. Didn't order them, but the clam chowder I had was okay. Maybe this helps, maybe not.
