Fried Clams [Detroit Area]

Can not find Fried Clams like Howard Johnsons used to have in the Detroit area Can anyone suggest a place to get good fried clams in the Detroit area? Thanks

I'm at Redcoat Tavern ATM, and they have fried clams on the menu as an appetizer. Didn't order them, but the clam chowder I had was okay. Maybe this helps, maybe not.

The Old Port Inn, 278 East 14 Mile Road, Clawson MI has them at $6.95 for the whole dinner deal. They were like the Bill Knapp's style I remembered. Not a bad lunch.

I miss the same thing myself - and have not found anything since I left New England. I took my mother back to Revere Beach once and as a beach front place shack opened up and saw us eyeing his clam buckets, and as a joke grabbed his knife and went "Back! Back!".
However, the closest in Milwaukee (sorry, not detroit) is a sushi place that does fried oysters,
Try that as a reasonable substitute. Locally $8 a decent sized plate.

Apart from Fran O'Brians which I tried last year, I've yet to find the real deal fried clam here in the Metro area. It's only a 12 hour drive to the east coast though, which has crossed my mind more than once.

Odd that this thread came up again....I saw them on the Stage Deli's Menu today. While I did not order them...Stage is know for some quality. I did think of this thread when I saw it.

I picked up a #45 The Producers. Corned Beef, Pickled Cow Tongue, Lettuce, Tomato, Hot Mustard on the Stage Rye. I tossed in a bit of Horseradish.
