Wonderful dinner at Bistrot La Minette

  • 7

We had only been to Bistrot La Minette once before, and at that time I was coming down with the flu.
Not a good time to judge, but it did seem like everything tasted good.

This past weekend we were in the mood for French food, and decided to try again. Wow! We all loved it.

The atmosphere is very much French bistro, and is warm and welcoming.
There were so many interesting options on the menu that it was difficult to choose.

Appetizers: I can't wait to return tohave another "flanenkuche", a thin-crusted pizza about the size of a pita bread covered with carmeiized onions and lardons. It had thoughtfully been divided into some strips, easy for eating and sharing. If you like carmelized onions and thin crusts, don't miss it.

My husband was ecstatic over his Oeuf du Pecheur - a poached egg on freshly toasted Brioche,
covered with mussels in a tarragon cream sauce.
One friend had the escargots, which he said were the best ever.
Our other friend had the breaded and fried Cantal cheese, accompanied by cauliflower, haricots verts and other vegetables in what she called a heavenly light lemon vinaigrette.

All the entrees were excellent. One favorite was the cassoulet, which contained lamb stew, duck confit, garlic sausage and other goodies. The fluke was pronounced excellent, as was the steak.
Creamy swiss chard and brussel sprouts were among the delicious accompaniments.

We shared two desserts - apple tarte tatin and the day's special, both terrific.

I may have misspelled some of the menu items; I copied from the website and don't guarantee anything.

Parking is not easy here - 6th and Bainbridge - but worth the effort.
I can't believe we have been missing this gem for so long.
We will be back soon to try some of the other enticing menu items.

  1. Thanks for the report sylviag! I often suggest Bistrot La Minette but it doesn't get a lot of chatter here. A number of different menu selections since my last trip - must be time to head back!

I'm also a big fan. Center City prices (to say nothing of commuting issues) are a bit of a deterrent, but it's still very good French bistro food with nice service and atmosphere. Every now and again they have a special menu targeted at a specific region of France.

and now they have $29 Sunday dinners!

Do you know if there are choices on the $29 dinners, or if there is just one set menu?

There is just one set menu - different every week. However, you also have the option of ordering from the regular menu.

    2. I love this place and so sad that they discontinued lunches..I live out in Chester County and the idea of driving into town at night is...well...unacceptable...lol..

I like La MInette as well.
The problem is that there are a lot of places down that neck of the woods we like, and it's quite far from SEPTA. I'll drive from time to time, but would rather avoid it.
