Dinner Near 34th and 8th.

Hi,

A few of us are taking the Bolt Bus to NY for the day in mid December and are looking for a place to have dinner within walking distance of 34th and 8th where the bus picks up. Not honed into any one cuisine, but it shouldn't be Indian or Asian. Looking for some place fairly nice, but we won't be all dressed up. Entrees shouldn't go higher than the $30's. Thanks very much for your help.

Are you looking for more suggestions? The area really is a dead zone (I take Bolt Bus at least 2x week and have the 'pleasure 'of being in that part of town quite regularly).

Here are some threads about Chelsea -- anything in the 20s near 8th or 9th would work for you I think. That includes Red Cat, Company aka Co., El Quinto Pino, Txikito (though Txikito will end up being a bit on the pricey side).

try Tir Na Nog on 33rd and 8th. good wait staff, tables to sit at away from the bar scene. The food is damn near ok for the awful tourist trap area you are looking to eat in. They offer decent appetizers and good entrees. It is within your price range. haven't had one in years, but i remember the burger is damn good there. had the wings recently and they are awesome. Its more than wings and burgers though. the menu is diverse. If theres a hockey game or basketball game or concert at the garden, it will get crowded especially about 90 minutes before the event starts.

Not the least bit fancy, but the Skylight Diner, at 34th and 9th, is a very good traditional NYC diner.

That's a hard neighborhood since Penn Station seems to be a vortex of not very good restaurants and chains. If you can go a bit west and south towards Chelsea, you'll have more options.

The best restaurant in the immediate vicinity that fits all of your requirements is probably Keens Steakhouse. The pub room menu is in your price range.
