As someone who grew up in the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ - an area filled with great Italian bakeries - I can tell you that IMHO the cannoli at Balducci's are dreadful. The shells are a weird chewy/soggy consistency and the filling is much too sweet. I haven't really found good cannoli down here. In 25 years. The cannoli at the Italian Store aren't bad.

I think the cannoli at Balducci's are flat out better (and less sweet) than Termini Brothers in Reading Terminal Market in Philly. They are not as good as the ones Roberta Donna made at the grill in Laboratorio, but mostly because his fillings were better. I've never had a shell at Balducci's that wasn't perfect, but maybe they just aren't to your taste.
