Fresh fenugreek in Los Angeles?

I've never seen it but would like to cook it.

  1. it is a staple in persian food. You can find it at persian markets. In farsi it is called Shanbalileh.

Thanks for the tip. Any Persian market you can recommend on the Westside (or otherwise in greater LA)? No need to confirm it has fresh fenugreek.

On pico just east of Beverly Drive there are multiple Persian/Jewish markets.

Elat Market (on Pico 1 block east of Robertson) and Glatt Mart literally right next door both generally have it...

      2. You can find it at most indian markets that sell fresh produce. In Hindi, it's called "methi".

        1. To answer my own question,

I've seen fresh fenugreek at Jordan Market in Westwood and Pioneer Grocery in Artesia. I actually haven't spotted it at the Indian grocery stores in LA.

Not sure which Indian stores you frequent, but India Sweets and Spices in Northridge and Canoga Park carry it, as does Bombay Market in Chatsworth. I also buy it from Valley Produce in Reseda, and the middle eastern markets on Balboa/Devonshire and Balboa/San Fernando Mission. Sometimes the indian markets don't have it out and you have to ask for it. They also sell it chopped and frozen -- Deep and Laxmi are two brands I've tried. The frozen one works well for aloo methi (potatoes with fenugreek leaves) and murgh methi (chicken with fenugreek leaves).
