Good Dog has great food and beer selection. It's not too far from Macy's and inexpensive. Varga Bar is also a good choice.

not to be a smart*ss, but what do you mean by "restaurant"?
for microbrews around here, there are a ton of gastropubs around, many with very good food, all with excellent beer selections; some places, like North 3rd, that sort of straddle the restaurant/gastropub line; and then straight-up restaurants, with only table service, no bar, etc.

Yea you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a nicely stocked tap or cooler in most neighborhoods. Some specifics would help.

okay. Here's the idea. To take my daughter and her boyfriend (both 24) to the city for some good food - good pub grub would be just fine, some good beer and then to Macy's for the light show (I know, hokey, but a good way to start off the season and get in the spirit). My DH and I used to do that way way back before kids, but haven't done it for years and would like to restart the tradition.

Not looking for fancy by any means. Bars with good food actually preferred.
