Best Chinatown restaurant options?

Can anyone tell me about their favorite Chinatown restaurants? I know there will be crowds there on Christmas day, but I'm hoping my husband and I can still find a decent meal. Any advice is certainly appreciated.

yea i cant imagine how mobbed chinatown is christmas day. here is a sleeper pick-try famous sichuan on pell street. all the regular favorites will be so swarmed and this place flies under the radar but has some good sichuan cuisine

I'd wondered about that place myself, hadn't seen any praise of it to speak of, what do they do well?

I go there for lunch from time to time (they have a fantastic lunch special). I usually get the Chengdu Double Sauteed Pork and it is out of this world delicious.

Famous Sichuan rolls on under the radar and I concur that their Chengdu Double Sauted Pork is incredible and a part of my lunch rotation!

Well the string beans are very good, so that's a starting point.

do you pay the price on the menu or do they pull a tax out of their butt?

Are they a bit random in their billings?

really? obviously this doesn't happen to me

btw if you use credit cards at alot of places you will get taxed (pretty shady)

i use only cash. i say this only because they always scribble tax on my check but i saw the older chinese woman's check who i was talking to and it had no tax. also they charged me tax at new chow chao the first few times i went and once they recognized me they stopped

I am not Chinese and have never ever seen a mistake on the bills at Cantoon - and we eat there a lot. Nor have I at any other Chinese restaurant we (both not Chinese) patronize. We pay in cash.

Cantoon? Yeah - my friends from France practically fell over backward when they saw the 2 lobster special - you couldn't get one for that price in paris.

For two people, your best options are probably either dim sum at Dim Sum Go Go or Red Egg or to go to a noodle shop like Noodle Village, Great NY Noodletown, Bo Ky, or Chow Chou, or the roast duck specialist, Wing Huang. But expect everything to be completely mobbed.

I believe Red Egg takes reservations, and are on OpenTable.com.
