Best Saffron in DT

Hey all,

Where can I find the best saffron in downtown Montreal? I don't have a bus pass or the time to go past the DT areas (McGill to Concordia area).

Atwater Market?

Since it's for a gift, I don't know too much about it. From my readings, I would want to get the Iranian saffron?

  1. It may be slightly out of your range, but IMO, Akhavan has really good quality Iranian Saffron.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually searched it, and Marche Akhavan turned up as well, but it is a bit out of the way for me. Is there anywhere closer anyone can recommend?

Around Guy/St Catherine you will find a bunch of small owner-run middle eastern stores. I am not sure if they would carry Saffron, but you can try Noor (St Cath/St Marc).

    2. Well, if you said that to José Andrés, he'd probably smack you and then convince you to purchase Spanish saffron. I like Spanish better but I have both. If you feel like getting Iranian saffron get it - it's a nice product.

Atwater Market probably the closest to the area you're willing to travel. Thinking Douceurs du Marché but poke around.
