Drinks Near O Ya?
I'm taking my husband to O Ya for his 40th birthday. Our reservations are at 9:30p. I'd like to invite 5 or 6 of his friends out to drinks beforehand, but I don't know any bars in the area. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'd like a place that's not too loud, and not too grungy, that's appropriate for a 35 - 45 year old crowd. And if possible, I'd love a comprehensive beer list. My husband ADORES beer.
Recommendations??
Thanks!
Sarah

Excellent birthday choice with O Ya. One of my favorite restaurants.
Les Zygomates, a Parisian-themed wine bar, is around the corner from O Ya, a 60 second walk. They even share valet.
The scene is exactly what you are looking for, except that they are a wine bar. Good wine list, but I have no idea what beer (if any) they serve.
Boston has a lot of great beer bars--The Publick House, Deep Ellum, Lord Hobo, Bukowski Tavern--but none are near O Ya. What about splitting the celebration into two separate nights? Then you wouldn't have to leave in a rush for dinner without your husband's friends.
If neither Les Zygomates nor my split-the-event suggestion work, barleywino's Jacob Wirth recommendation is a possibility. I'm not a huge fan of Jacob Wirth, but they are a German-themed restaurant with a not poor selection of beer on draft. It is about a 10 minute walk (half mile) from Jacob Wirth to O Ya.

Whatever you do, good luck and happy birthday to your husband!

Drink in Fort Point is close, has great drinks/atmosphere in my opinion, but not a great beer list (although the bottled beers that they do have are great). Jacob Wirth has a decent/strong selection of Germain beers, but is not the most upscale of places. Stoddards has a great beer selection, but I've been unimpressed by the service and it can get quite loud in there. But alas, those are the only three places that I can think of in the area at the moment that could fit your criteria.
Oh, an edit: I personally love all three. I didn't mean to sound negative there.
