Having read positive comments about this restaurant here, I bought a $25 gift certificate (for $3) from restaurant.com and gave it a try. I will not return. The high point was the pastas (mushroom, short rib ragu, and another meat one), which were solidly decent (nothing more). The supposedly house-made bread was airy and tasteless. The salad--roasted peppers, mozzarella, etc.--was just terrible (well, the mozzarella component was good). The "house-made" artichokes in the salad were mushy and had no taste other than vinegar, there was absolutely no dressing on the lettuce, which was wilted, and the tomatoes were the hard waxy roma variety which, as far as I'm concerned, should never be eaten raw. They used the same awful tomatoes to make the bruscetta. I really found this insulting. I understand that it is November, but if you can't get decent tomatoes--or figure out how to doctor bad tomatoes to make them good--don't sell them. Perhaps I would have been able to ignore all this oif not for the fact that we were shivering throughout the meal because the door was open. While 55 in November is unseasonably warm, it is not a comfortable dining temperature. AND, the dinner--one salad, one bruscetta, three pastas, two glasses of wine--was around $85 after the $25 was deducted, so it didn't even feel like a bargain. AND the waiter was smirky and condescending. Still, lots of people were dining and looked happy, so I guess there are other views out there....
Finally! I consider that place place one of the many mediocre-to-outright-bad restaurants in the neighborhood.
To me, Fragole is the very definition of "meh."
I've been utterly unimpressed each and every time I've eaten there- and yet it's popular- simply because it's one of the few "non-tacky" Italian places around.
