Best Authentic Thai and Vietnamese in and around DC ????

Please tell me your recs DC hounds. Really looking for not your same old made for gringos run of the mill dishes.

      On the Vietnamese side of things, Eden Center is the place to go; lots of info on it on the board.

        And a quick primer: Generally, outside of Thai X-ing (to which I haven't yet been personally) Thai inside DC is Americanized. Wheaton and Columbia Pike in Arlington are the top spots generally speaking. Outside of Eden Center, and not going into a pho discussion (save for one point) Nam Viet and Minh's are the other most often referrred to.

        The point about pho is that around here there's a general rule that if the pho is good, the rest of the menu probably is not, and vice versa.

        If you're a further outlier in any direction then there are other options (for instance there's actually pretty decent thai offerings in Reston/Herndon/Sterling).
