Driving from Tampa Intl to Boca Grande

Adamlick Nov 23, 2010 01:32 PM

My girlfriend and I are flying into Tampa and driving down to Boca Grande. We are looking for a good breakfast place in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. My GF has become an omlette freak as of late, so any place that specializes in such is a plus. Also, if there is a unique/must-try place along the way, I would love to hear about it because we will have to make the drive back :) Thanks in advance for your help.

    I would recommend the following:

    1. First Watch, 520 North Tampa St., Tampa, FL 333602 (Phone: (813) 307-9006). This location is in downtown Tampa. I always find a place to park, but you may need to feed a meter. Excellent regular and open-faced omelettes. I particularly like the omelettes with a Mexican bent to them. There is also one in downtown Sarasota, which is bigger.

    2. Lenny's Restaurant, 21220 U.S. Highway 19, Clearwater, FL 33765-2826 (Phone: (727) 799-0402. Excellent omelettes and a very elaborate New York-style Jewish deli-type menu, certified as an authentic Jewish place, with bagels and chopped liver, etc., by a friend of mine. (I'm from the Midwest originally, so what would I know?) You're going to find more different food here than anywhere else I've listed, but also extensive standard breakfast favorites.

    3. Skyway Jack's, 2795 34th St. South, St. Petersburg, FL 33711 (Phone: (727) 867-1907). If First Watch is the Anglo entry and Lenny's is the Jewish entry, then this is the Florida entry. It is heavy on food which has a Florida orientation to it, particularly fish (yes, at breakfast!). The omelettes are excellent, but there are a lot of other choices available, some of which you've never seen on a breakfast menu before (or anywhere else before). The place is busy and extremely informal.

If this is too late for your trip to Boca Grande, I hope that you will try one of these places on your way back. Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendations, but we already left. My GF's family lives in Tampa, so I will definitely try Skyway Jack's at some point. Thanks again.

Pach's Place for eggs benedict near the water. For something really elaborate on a Sunday, Oystercatcher's in Tampa for brunch.
