Lunch at 775 Gastropub in Reno
We had lunch today at 775 Gastropub restaurant on the outer edge of Meadowood Mall, between Macy's and Penney's.
I had a chorizo burger with onion rings (superb!), and my companion had a stuffed acorn squash that she thought was wonderful.
We also took the opportunity to talk to Chef Auriane Ugalde about hosting a special "pintxos" dinner (the Basque version of tapas), and she had some great ideas for traditional Basque of Northern Spain dishes that we could try. She's going to put together a suggested menu with pricing and send it to me for an outing we're planning to have in late January.
This was a very pleasant experience, and the food was very good. Prices are not cheap, but reasonable. Cheaper food is available in the food court, but nothing as good as this.
I'm looking forward to going back and trying some of the other unusual dishes.
We signed up for the Groupon deal for GastroPub 775. At first the atmosphere was a little schizophrenic - an ostensibly fine dining place with a sports-bar like feel. We decided to roll with it and ordered several of the smaller plates.
The lamb chops were perfectly grilled and buttery, but the fried parsnip chips added a little discord. The escargot was an unusual take - cooked in a wine based sauce reminiscent of Boeuf Bourgignon.
Its interesting enough for a return visit!
