20th Anniversary Dinner in Philly

Am looking for a special spot to enjoy an anniversary dinner with my husband in Philly. We're celebrating with a lengthy vacation in a few weeks, but wanted a special night out on the actual night. We're coming in from the NJ suburbs, and will have both of our kids with us (ages 12 and 14). Trying to stay away from anything solely devoted to seafood as both my son and I are not big fans. Nothing touristy and doesn't have to be ultra high end. Good food with a nice atmosphere is what we are looking for. Any recommendations?

  1. What is the actual night? Some places may be closed, already booked, etc. What kind of budget did you have in mind for the four of you? Any other food restrictions or cuisines you aren't fans of? There are dozens of places with good food and nice atmosphere, some more details will help narrow it down.

It is a Saturday night, so I think most should be open - already booked, well, that's definitely possible.... Budget - I always shy away from this because I feel that when I include a specific range, people EXCLUDE possibilities. Let's just say that I could afford the higher end for this special occasion ($65 and up per person)but I would prefer not to do that this time as we are spending quite a bit on the vacation. Somewhere in the $35 - 50 range, but please don't exclude a recommendation if it falls below or above that. (Actually the lower price range for great food and a nice atmosphere would be most welcome!!) No other food restrictions, although my son is a bit of a picky eater so if they have some bland options, that would help. We'd also like to stay in the city - no Philly suburbs. Hope that helps give you a better idea... Thanks again!

I think since this is a family celebration there should be a fun element to it. Buddakan, Distrito, and Amada feels that way to me. Steak always seems celebratory. In that case, I'd say Barclay Prime. Happy Anniversary.

    2. I would recommend either of Vetri's places (other than Vetri) Amis or Osteria. If it can be BYOB I'd say Cochon or Kanella. For a little more adventure, Zahav.

I forgot about Zahav and I was just there a couple of weeks ago. The tasting menu with the roasted lamb is excellent and is served family style.

      2. Love your username, mrszuhwiggins. Had to watch some Carol Burnett on youtube after seeing that!
