Never got to the restaurant myself, but know it was always on everyone's top pick list. Yes, this is a great loss to the Central Coast. R.I.P.

My thoughts go out to his family and staff--they must be devastated. He was quite the gentleman; I remember a bday dinner years ago at the Morro Bay location with friends who dined there often and they'd brought in some wine, and shared it with him as well. "Ooooo what did you bring?!" He was gracious and delightful, joking and wishing me a happy birthday. I believe he comped my dessert. That was my first experience in ordering ala carte in the area. So much to chose from; you could design your own 3-4 course meal. It felt novel in the 90's!

      Rest in Peace, Mr Hoppe.
