Local Tofu?

Wondering if anyone has a favourite brand of tofu for flavour, or know of any restaurants serving tofu they make themselves?

Sunrise Soya has made their own for decades now-all kinds of different products-I had some for lunch today!

Superior Tofu is the other local manufacturer. Been around since the '80s.

I like the tofu they make in store at Excellent Tofu & Snacks in Richmond. They are located at 4231 Hazelbridge Way.

I also like the housemade tofu at O'Tray Noodles in President Plaza food court in Richmond.

I agree with Sam that Sunrise also produces a good product - their organic soft tofu (sold as Soyganic brand) is excellent.

+1 on the tofu "brains" soup at O'Tray -- had it today, as a matter of fact. Delicious with a shaobing stuffed with Chinese donut from the soy stand in the corner.

Why is it called tofu "brain" in Chinese ?

PS: I feel like tofu-brained on Monday AMs and Friday PMs ......

I don't really know. I guess it has the same consistency as brain? (It is also called tofu "flower".)

Ah yes. My parents call sweet dessert tofu "doufu hua" or just 豆花, dou hua.

Had a really good tofu dish at Shanghai Village today. It is on special for $1.99 (reg $3.99) and may only be on their lunch menu. It is called Chin-Wai Soft Tofu.

For tofu brands - both Sunrise and Superior are very good. I like Sunrise's wider range of products and I like Superior's egg tofu. You can't go wrong with either.

if you head to Sunrise market on the corner or Gore and Powell, you will see the full assortment of all there products. it's great for fresh fruit and veggies too and Asian products in general
