For those of you that remember the very idiosyncratic, quirky, unique Manny's Bistro on Westwood, what do you think might be like it nowadays?

  1. Well, there's a Manny's Burgers and Tacos at Woodman and Moorpark in the valley, but unless the name is enough, you might be disappointed.

    1. I remember it fondly. Everyone in my family enjoyed the food, ambience and, especially, the proprietor. No meal at Manny's was complete for us kids without a giggling trip to the bathroom to see the naked picture of Manny and his "nephew."

I just called my Dad who reminded me that Manny was Cuban, and the food was Cuban-ish. Manny would often break out his violin and serenade the crowd later in the evenings. Marijuana was a fixture, though it could only be smoked in the restaurant on New Year's Eve. My Dad told me he last saw Manny serving samples at Costco!

As far as a similar restaurant, he (my Dad) said Partrick’s SIdestreet Café in Los Olivos is quite reminiscent of Manny’s Bistro, especially in the “idiosyncratic, quirky, unique” Department, if not in the Cuban Department.

Nothing of note -- not his own stuff -- just the little tastes of product they give out at Costco.

PATERNAL CORRECTION: He was demonstrating a product, perhaps a soap.
