Casual and slightly upscale in Paradise Valley

We andanother couple are spending two weeks in Paradise Valley over Christmas this year. We're familiar with Scottsdale and the chain restaurants at Paradise Valley mall, but would like a recommendation for great burgers, steaks and dlivery pizza. If we can, would like to stay avoid the chains and try something new. Any suggestions

Chelsea's Kitchen is mentioned in the post above. I'd definitely recommend it. It's just a few hundred feet on the Phoenix side of the Phoenix / Paradise Valley border, and the patio has a nice view of the Arizona Canal. Look for burgers, tacos, daily fish specials, etc.

      Hi Petemare,

Paradise Valley is very close to the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix. A place called The Grind, at 40th & Camelback (just south of PV) has made a great burger everytime I was there. Judging by the board's though it has been hit or miss for some of the Chow peeps. They have a 1000 degree coal fired oven to sear meats. The photo ended up down below.

If you want to see some more photos I did a review post (with pics & video) on our company blog at http://www.smartkitchen.com/blog/make...

The Grind is upscale and casual.

Also you may be able to cover the pizza and burger requirements (though not the delivery) at La Grande Orange (LGO) a small chain expanding out of AZ to L.A. They are good and casual too. They are another block or two south down 40th St. from the Grind.

Their green chili burger is really good (voted #1 in city by AZ Republic if memory serves) but they only make it at night. Also they are most well known for their pizza's. There is a dining room and a take-out/small grocery side. If you can, try the olive oil cake, it's a good curiosity and do get their english muffins. They are terrific.

For steaks, you have a lot of options near PV. BLT is good (and $$$). So is El Chorro Lodge (which I did some pics of and a review too) but it ranks higher on the "classy casual" meter than it does on the serious steaks meter (for me). It was recently re-done and has a unique, desert opulence feel about it. But if you have transport and enjoy "old school" steak house dining, I'd consider Durant's, on Central closer to downtown but a cool "Mad Men" kind of original AZ fine dining steak house. Look it up and see if it appeals to you before making the voyage. I have not been to Chelsea's Kitchen but it is very highly recommended and close to PV. Enjoy the holidays and your trip.
