Seeking Sourdough Bread Cubes for Stuffing

hhewitt Nov 21, 2010 12:16 PM

I can't seem to find sourdough bread in cubes for stuffing/dressing this year. My mother in the San Francisco area can't find them either.

Does anyone know where I can find sourdough dried bread cubes for making stuffing (maybe half an inch square) near-ish Culver City? I've checked Vons, Albertsons, Whole Foods...

    Try Williams Sonoma and/or Surfas

I'm guessing not Surfas, mostly due to this recipe not having sourdough cubes in bold:

I tried calling Surfas, and got voicemail.

I called Williams Sonoma Beverly Hills... and they have focaccia and cornbread, but not sourdough.

Not nearish Culver City, but Frisco Baking may have them. They make sourdough bread for the restaurants in the LA area (like The Original Pantry).
They're wholesale and open to the public. I know they have stuffing mix, but I'm not sure if it's sourdough. Give them a call.

Thanks! That looks like a good option... but sadly there's almost no chance I'll make it there before Thanksgiving given their location/hours. I guess I waited too long.

Well, couldn't you buy a loaf of sourdough bread, cube it up and let it sit out for a few days and it will be dry?

Yeah... and I probably will (or toast it in an oven). I'm just lazy.

That will be the best way to do it. Go to Pioneer bakery on Rose in Venice, if it is still there and order up 1 or 2 loaves of bread, slice it with a serrated knife and you are done. I am doing my own croutons with bread from Frisco because they are close to me. Enjoy.

                Pioneer is no longer there.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who wants sourdough bread cubes... although we're apparently so rare it's not worth selling them commercially anymore.

Now I guess I just need to know about some good sourdough bread near Culver City... or maybe Westwood.
