Personal Chef for Hire?
I'm looking to hire a personal chef for one evening as a wedding gift for a friend. They live in San Francisco so I'm sure there are a plethora of personal chefs for hire in that area. The couple I'm giving the gift to will eat pretty much anything but I would probably steer them towards a chef who can do "New American" type dishes with seafood and who can also put out dessert. Does anyone have any resources or recommendations on hiring a personal chef who can create a fabulous, fine dining experience for my friends at their home? Also, how much does something like this typically cost though it shouldn't be too big of an issue.
Do your friends have a particular favorite restaurant? It is possible to hire someone from that kitchen, likely on an off night.

At our school, private chef requests were very commonplace and usually handled by the placement director. State your requirements very clearly and ask for several referrals. I would call Mary Risley at Tante Marie's Cooking School, The Art Institute SFO or the California Culinary Academy for your request. You should expect to pay the student chef at least two hundred dollars plus the cost of food/wine.
NB: the teaching staff chef(s) are also available but would like be a higher cost. At least that was the case in my experience.
