Grape Ice Cream?

ipsedixit Nov 19, 2010 05:40 PM

Yes, I know the weather is not exactly ice cream friendly.

But, I am curious if anybody makes a straight, simple grape ice cream.

Just grape (either red or green), no other flavors combo (e.g. not looking for "grape chardonnay" or "grape rum raisin" or whatever else).

And it has to be ice cream, no sherbet or sorbet.

There was Concord grape ice cream at Sweet Rose Creamery the last time I was there a couple months ago, but it's probably gone until next season.

Call Handel's. They might be willing to whip you up a batch if you'd like to order a bunch.

ANY weather is ice cream weather, ipse, and don't you forget it. :-)

Tai at Scoops made a grape+grape nut combo ice cream once a few years back, I believe. It was awesome. But as you know, the flavors at Scoops are as ephemeral and whimsical as Lady Gaga's outfits. Except the brown bread, of course. They always have brown bread.

          Doesn't really count.

I want just grape and nothing else.

Oh that sounds interesting. Never had it before but the thought of maybe having a Concord grape-flavored ice cream sounds delicious. The old Pup 'n Taco used to sell grape slushes many years ago which taste I still remember. Let me know if you find anything close to it. Hope you find what you're looking for?

Handel's does make grape ice cream but the flavors rotate so check with the store to see when and if they have it. The grape is really good too.

I didn't care for the grape flavor. Tasted like cough syrup.

I do agree that it's not a flavor you'd eat all the time.

concord is a bad grape for ice cream. muscadine (muscat grapes) is much better!
