So excited to try Island Creek Oyster Bar

xcptnl Nov 19, 2010 02:09 PM

We will be in Boston next Friday staying over for an early flight out on Saturday and this restaurant is on our agenda!! Planning on heading over around the time they open. That will hopefully work out in getting in and getting us back into our hotel at a decent hour for that early morning alarm (4am!!!!).

We are not raw oyster eaters but the reviews of the fried clams among other items sound fantastic!!

Make a reservation, even for an early arrival. We tried to make reservations for last night and couldn't get one; thought we'd show up anyway and see what the wait was like. It was 3 hours. We went to Eastern Standard instead.

I love that we have now have a real alternative to B&G and Neptune.

The staff and service at ICOB instantly distinguishes itself from Neptune - warm, knowledgeable, welcoming, unpretentious. I really enjoyed everything we had (many oysters, cherrystones, fried clams (salty and very tasty, I liked the salty), other apps).

Why not try it and give us the benefit of your comparison?

We went on a Tuesday night, it was packed, I'd get reservations.

Perhaps it's a case of different night, different result. I actually compared our fried clams to the Clam Box. I love the clam box and the ones I had at Island Creek were that good.

I agree. The ICOB clams were superb.

Other things, however, like the fish and chips, seafood casserole, and gnocchi with lobster were not nearly as good.

          Lobster. Roe. Noodles. Period.

I am a big fan of fried clams but the ones I had there were mostly tough/rubbery and some of them I just could not eat.

Darnit!!! Do you like Neptune Oyster's fried clams? Trying to see if we just have different tastes for clams. :)

i do like Neptune's clams (ate a whole plate of them)...and fried clams i've had at some non-clam places (like Craigie or 9 Park)...but not at Essex seafood...have not been to Clam box yet...hope this helps

Well, I can recommend the Clam Box. Maybe we will just go to Neptune. We have not been disappointed any time we have gone there.
