Tin Tin Box & Noodles Charlotte

I have been working in Uptown Charlotte for the ast 2.3 years, and last week was the first time I ventured in to Tin Tin Box and Noodles. I was suffering from a cold, and so their Canton Won Ton soup sounded appealing. They also offered Vietnamese fresh spring rolls that day.

The spicy broth (I ordered extra spice) was loaded with rice noodles plus generous amounts of chicken and shrimp. It is garnished with mung bean sprouts, green onions and cilantro. It was exactly what I needed - hot, spicy, salty and tasty. At $5.95 for a near-quart serving, it is also an excellent bargain.

The spring roll was good, but I found the dipping sauce too thick.

Anyone else eat at Tin Tin on a regular basis? What else is good?

I work across the street so I'm there a few times a month. I always get the extra spicy pho. It's not really authentic pho, but its good and very inexpensive. Go after 1 though. The line is out the door otherwise.

So this got me thinking about that soup and I just went and got it. There was no line. I think Wok on Fire opening up upstairs and Newk's down the street giving away free lunch for their grand opening might have taken some of the usual crowd. I got the spicy pho, as usual. It's really just very spicy, seasoned chicken broth with rice noddles, very small wontons and a good amount of chicken and shrimp. I forget exactly what it cost but it's $5 something. Be sure to ask for chop sticks because the fork and spoon they give you are very small and it's hard to eat with them. A really good lunch option, especially on a cold day.

      BTW, I give Newk's 6 months.

Yes - tried Newks a week ago or so. Ordered the shrimp salad remoulade, and all I can say is blech! The shrimp had no flavor (no Olde Bay or anything!) and the remoulade was not very tasty and had an odd texture. That said - I think they will last longer than 6 months. I am heading back to Tin Tin for the soup today!

Newk's has a decent cobb salad and pretty tasty chicken salad for a chain concept. Not bad really for suburbia anyway (there is one in Blakeney).
