Where to buy good vegetarian corn tortillas?

At the risk of sounding like a tremendously inauthentic yuppie, does anyone where I should buy good corn tortillas without lard, preferably in the area around little italy or the U of T?

Also, is there jarred salsa that is especially good? or is it always going to be leagues behind what I can make at home with canned tomatoes?

What do you all think?

Just to throw my 2 cents in, if you're buying packaged tortillas, look out for the ingredient "Monoglycerides". I know that PC flour tortillas have it and my understanding is that it's most likely that monoglycerides are derived from animal fats.

Try Perola Supermarket 247 Augusta for a large selection of Mexican foods.

Bought some corn tortillas @ Perola today and looking at the ingredients on the packaging - no lard. Everything else inside would appear to be vegetarian.

FYI all corn tortillas contain is masa harina and water and they are dry fried.
        No lard period.

I would humbly disagree with you on that one, every tortilla recipe I know of asks for either corn oil or shortening. The authentic ones I have seen have all requested lard only, nothing else.

If you can't find them think about making your own, they are tremendously easy to make.

Perhaps you are referring to cooking tortillas?
Have a look see how easy it is.

I agree, we make tortillas regularly and it's just masa and water and then dry fried.

sometimes we fry them after the dry fry for tostadas or cut them up and fry them for taco chips.

Call La Tortilleria and ask if any of their tortillas are made without lard. They've got some nice salsas, too. Several locations, including one near Kensington Market.

They're actually in the middle of the Market on Augusta @ Baldwin. They moved two months ago or so.

There's a tiny store in the middle of Kensington Market but I don't know the name. They stock all kinds of Mexican foods, including several kinds of corn tortillas.
