Trying to find Finnan Haddie to buy

There are a few places online.... one is Amazon of all places, with a pretty bad review. I know it's a weird one, but do any of you out there have any thoughts. Need 3-4 lbs in San Diego before Thanksgiving to satisfy an old family craving.

Thanks

You can usually find Finnan Haddie in higher end grocery stores in the section where they would have smoked fish like salmon or other deli type items like smoked herring. It comes in a white wooden box about 6" W x 8"L x 2 1/2' H, with blue writing. I grew up eating it, and see it still to this day in stores; although i haven't had it in a long time. Try calling Gelsons, or maybe Albertsons. I think if you type it in the search bar you will find a lot of resources. I also noticed it on this web sight which i had to register into and find your post using 'Finnan Haddie. In the end...i found you through my history (cookies). Hope this helps. I had to do this because i never knew anyone else outside my family who even knew what Finnan Haddie was! Hope this helps.

Written by Cole Porter, and best performed (others tried) by Julie London- here's a snippet:

If I invite a boy some night
To dine on my fine finnan haddie
I just adore his asking for more
But my heart belongs to Daddy

Yes my heart belongs to Daddy
So I simply couldn’t be bad
Yes, my heart belongs to Daddy
      Da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da

So I want to warn you, laddie
Though I know you’re perfectly swell
But my heart belongs to Daddy
‘cause my Daddy he treats it so well

Try giving Major Market a call. They may have it or know where.

Good call Cathy, I called all the primary seafood stores and Major was the only one who said hmmmmmmm-m-m-m-m-m wait a minute (then called their wholesaler while I'm on hold) then came back and said, "NO PROBLEM, when do you need it?" Never been their before but I'll be there tomorrow. THANK YOU!

            :) You're welcome.

I didn't want to promise for them, but every time in the past ten+ years I have asked management about any item, they have ordered it for me.

You'll like the store, although it will probably be crazy crowded. One item I always buy is the three pack of plain/currant scones near the front door. They make those better than I can.

That's been my experience too Cathy. Major is a great little supermarket. They have a nice assortment of panty items and condiments that I don't find everywhere else. Good one stop if putting together a food gift basket.
