  1. Well if you're at Columbus Circle, go on in to the TWC. You've got Stone Rose and if you can get a table by the windows, the view of the park is awesome. On the other hand, if you're really looking to impress, there's the MO Bar in the Madarin Oriental. At night, the view from there is spectacular but it will cost.

The bar inside the Porterhouse restaurant in the Time Warner building is cozy too, no view though. A little farther North, you have the Empire Hotel, their rooftop bar is open all year round (I believe), and there's indoor space there too.

Another option down the block (W. 58th) is the The LIbrary in The Hudson Hotel.

Second The library, if things go well, you are already in a hotel - HA!

    2. I second Stone Rose - a great choice w/spectacular view.

I had my first drink "date" at Jean Georges 11 years ago, at the bar, no dining. We've been married for 10 years. So go for it!!

          1. I've heard the bar at Porterhouse is nice and fairly quiet for a steakhouse, but haven't been myself. Some work friends like it very much.Places I have been that I think would work for a first date are Star Lounge at the Ritz Carlton and the bar/lounge at Southgate(which is in the Essex Hotel). Some restaurants in the area with a nice bar are Quality Meats (West 58th),The bar at the Modern (West 53rd), Ruth's Chris (West 50th), Beacon (West 56th),Piano Due (West 51st),
Thalia (west 50th).Other options are the various bars at the Plaza Hotel,Hudson Hotel bar and Library,

The bar (and view) at the Mandarin Oriental is stunning.

            2. Robert, on the 9th floor of the museum of art and design has great view. The food is not good though

              1. Ava Lounge or maybe one of the wine bars in upper Hell''s Kitchen.
