Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

good food, fun atmosphere and not too much $$?

yeah right.... I know ---- but we are taking the family (7 of us) out for theater matinee Friday following Thanksgiving - and would like to find a place that won't totally empty the wallet further (7 tickets for Broadway is ridiculous!) . We can move our cars after theater and go outside of theater district if necessary. Gee - just thinking maybe we'd hit China town - that might be welcome after Thanksgiving?! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  1. If you want to go to Chinatown and have a banquet, South China Garden is the place I most recommend. What, by the way, is too much $$, to you?

I would like to keep it under $50 a person - really the lowest we can go (that doesn't sound so nice!) and still have good food - we've done lots of nice meals together - I thought this one can be one of our lower scale ones as we will have just come off a big Turkey thanksgiving dinner and the following day after this dinner we will be sharing an Italian SECOND Thanksgiving dinner together!

It's almost impossible to spend $50 a person anywhere in Chinatown, unless you go to Oriental Garden and order expensive seafood. The reason I asked is that I thought of the idea of Korean barbecue, but that might cut close to your limit. Besides, it's a pretty big feast. I think going to Chinatown is a good idea, except that if you really do need your cars, you may be spending a lot of money at a garage. If you could possibly take the train or bus in, you could potentially save a lot of money.

    2. When you said fun I was thinking of Dim Sum where they bring the carts around.

Well, at least I think it's fun. Food fun.

      1. Carmines for family style italian.

vidyoh - so ironic that you posted today - and tomorrow is our yearly theater and dinner outing again - a year later than this last post. We are trying Hell's Kitchen this year. Yes, we agree Carmine's is great for family style dinner - but we enjoy trying new places when we can.
